FBI Houston CAAA Continuing Education Series – Human Trafficking

Jan, 2019

On January 22, 2019 the FBI Houston CAAA held our first ever Continuing Education Series event. The FBI Houston CAAA Continuing Education Series is designed to replicate the education and training alumni received during their FBI Citizens Academy weekly classes. The goal of the Continuing Education Series events is to keep alumni updated and aware of the current focuses of the FBI which in turn will help us in our role as FBI ambassadors.

In our first Continuing Education Series event we had Special Agent Theo Williams, FBI Houston Child Exploitation Task Force – Innocence Lost Coordinator, present on the topic of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST). His presentation discussed why it is hard to identify DMST victims, human trafficking Red Flags, methods of control and coercion used by traffickers, strategies for identifying DMST and interactions with potential DMST victims.

For this event we also arranged to have Jonathan Jeter, the Program Director for Home of Hope, discuss his organization and their role in combating human trafficking. Home of Hope is a Houston area-based organization dedicated to help fight adolescent human trafficking in the U.S.

The event fee was $10 which included a dinner. The fees from this event and all additional donations were collected to benefit the Home of Hope organization. Thanks to the many generous donations of our alumni we were able to present Home of Hope with a check for $1,266.
