FBI Houston CAAA Continuing Education Series – Missing Persons Investigations

On July 17, 2019 the FBI Houston CAAA held our second event in the 2019 FBI Houston Citizens Academy Alumni Association Continuing Education Series.

For the second event we had FBI Houston Special Agent Glenn Gregory and Beth Alberts, CEO for the Texas Center for the Missing and winner of the 2018 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, present on the topic of missing persons investigations. Ms. Alberts also serves as the Director of the Houston Regional Amber Alert Program, the largest regional Amber Alert system in the country. The Houston Amber Alert program is administered by Texas Center for the Missing. As part of their operation, The Texas Center for the Missing trains law enforcement on the local Amber Alert system, provides 24-hour support for alert issuance, and deploys trained search-and-rescue experts upon request.

The Texas Center for the Missing was formed in March of 2000 after the disappearance of 17-year-old Gabriel Lester who was reported missing from his private high school. Gabriel’s mother, a Houston-area businesswoman, decided, after his remains were located four months later, to turn her tragedy into a positive effort that would have an impact on missing children and their families in Greater Houston.

The Texas Center for the Missing is a 501(c)3 nonprofit located in Houston, Texas, dedicated to bringing hope and healing to the missing and their families through crisis intervention, prevention, and community education. Founded in 2000, they seek to IMPACT the missing person’s issue through community education, PREPARE law enforcement and community leaders to handle missing person’s cases, and RESPOND quickly and effectively to bring every missing person home.

The fee for this event was $10 which included a dinner. The fees from this event and all additional donations were collected to benefit the Texas Center for the Missing. Thanks to the many generous donations of our alumni we were able to present Texas Center for the Missing with a check for $1,106.
